Volunteer: Give Your Time And Engergy
New volunteers are gladly welcome, whether it’s on a weekly or relief basis. If you have a few hours a day on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, consider delivering meals to our clients. We also need volunteers willing to assist with meal assembly at our caterer, bringing meals from the caterer to our office and cleaning and sorting delivery boxes.
We require that our volunteers have good interpersonal skills and are compassionate and sensitive to the needs of seniors and those who are homebound. They need to be able to work with a minimum of supervision, and able to accept direction and guidance. Additionally, those wishing to become a Volunteer Delivery Driver must own their vehicle, have a valid driver’s license, submit a clean Driver’s Abstract (from ICBC), and be able to read and follow road maps.
Because volunteers are serving a vulnerable population at their homes all applicants need to submit references and a criminal record check along with the completed Burnaby Meals on Wheels Volunteer Application Form. There will also be an in-person interview to determine suitability for the volunteer role.
